Day 1: Fact Families Cont. w/ addition and Subtraction

Balancing Garden Friends: Let's Explore Together!

Rediscovering the Balance Scale:

Imagine we have a balance scale, just like a seesaw. It helps us understand numbers better by making sure both sides are equal.

1. Understanding Equal Sign Magic:

The equal sign means both sides of the scale need to be balanced, just like a spider and cricket on a seesaw. Numbers, like 2 and 5, are best friends – they always balance each other out!

2. Fun with Number Families:

Today, we're playing with subtraction to find our special insect families! Imagine we have 7 garden insects. If we take away 2, we have 5 left. And if we take away 5, we have 2 left. These insect families stick together just like our spider and cricket friends.

3. Hands-On Balancing Act:

Now, if we know that 2 plus 5 equals 7, then let's figure our 7 minus 2.  Let's put 7 insects on one side of the scale and take 2 away.  How many insects do I have left? (5 insects!) It's all about making our garden insects happy and balanced!

4. Learning the Number Fun:

With our garden insects and balance scale, we're solving a fun puzzle. It's not just math; it's an adventure with our insect friends, learning and exploring together! 🕷️🦗🔢✨
