Discovering Number Families

1. Understanding Number Families:

A number family is like a house where numbers live together!

Example:
7 🏠
5 🏠 + 2 🏠

2. Decomposing Numbers:

Breaking a number into parts helps us understand its family members.

Example:
7 = 5 + 2

3. Fact Family House:

Fact families are related number sentences that come from the same set of numbers.

Example:
Number Sentence 1:
5 + 2 = 7

Number Sentence 2:
2 + 5 = 7

Number Sentence 3:
7 - 5 = 2

Number Sentence 4:
7 - 2 = 5

4. Using Manipulatives & Balance Scale:

Visualize and balance the number family using manipulatives and a balance scale. This helps us see how numbers are related and balanced. The amount on each side of the equal sign must be balanced!
